What is Fall Prevention?

Fall prevention is one of the consultation services that our doctors offer our patients. Elderly fall prevention is a big concern for many patients and their families. Our doctors provide education and training.

How does Fall Prevention Work?

Preventing falls in the elderly includes a combination of precautionary measures with the goal of providing stability when walking and a safe environment. Your podiatrist will examine your foot to evaluate if you are at risk of falling. The doctor makes sure that your gait is balanced and that you have the best shoes for fall prevention. If orthotics are needed to aid in balancing, he would recommend them during this time. Fall prevention also includes strategies, education, and training to minimize your risk of being injured during a fall.

Conditions Treated

Many of South Florida’s elderly are at risk of falling. Podiatrists evaluate your gait and ability to balance to determine if you are at risk for falling. If you are at risk, the doctor can recommend reinforced shoes with extra balance, walking assistance, or orthotics to help prevent you from falling.
